Meet the Team

Arthur is the ultimate gentleman. This chunky monkey's happy place is hacking out over the farm, but he's done a little bit of everything in his time.

Prior to coming to Pleasant View Elmo was owned by one family where he went to pony club and did trekking. Elmo is well suited to a wide range of riders and loves jumping. An ideal horse to learn on!

Lena arrived unhandled and pregnant from Helena Bay in the Far North in 2017. She has mostly been clicker trained, and is super snuggly.

Previously owned by a friend, Stanley is a one in a million horse. A real gentleman with lovely manners on the ground and under saddle. He has all the fancy moves. Suitable for beginner to experienced riders, he will look after you.

Sterling had an illustrious racing career in Hong Kong, consisting of one race, where he came last.

His talents lie elsewhere: he holds the record for having the most time off due injury of any horse at Pleasant View. If there's an accident waiting to happen, he'll find it!

While he's a bit of a doof-head, he really is a lovely horse who looks after beginner riders and is happy to plod along or go faster if he really needs to.

Bandit has just joined the team, he's not available yet.

Tommy is a very sweet horse with lots of character. As an ex-eventer, he requires firm boundaries because he can be a bit bossy. Tommy was purchased from Hope Rising Farm where he was used as a therapy horse. He can be nervous of irrigators (when they are operating) but we are working on this.

Suit intermediate to experienced riders.

Deraygo has just joined the team, he's not available yet.

Poppins earned $196,761 from 19 race starts before being retired as a broodmare. Purchased from Waikato Standardbred Rehoming in Feb 2023, Poppins is a lovely safe ride for beginner riders. She is not keen on other horses being too close to her rear end and will let you know by turning on her grumpy mare ears.

Dino is bay.

May Morning is the jetsetter of our team. Originally from Ireland where she had 5 starts, she was exported to Kentucky, then Australia and retiring to NZ. She had 3 foals (2 colts and a filly) before being surrendered to New Lives.

I hopped on her after 15 years of not being ridden and she didn't put a foot wrong. Suited to Intermediate to experienced riders.

Has done western , dressage, trekking, Loves a good walk out. Suitable for beginner riders upwards.

Daniel's dedicated superstar RDA pony, Ngaio is learning to be ridden without any use of seat aids.

It was only after purchasing Bella we discovered (by pure accident) that Bella has partial sight on her near side. She is able to be ridden out with company but only by experienced and empathetic riders.

Treks in company nicely but requires a firm rider because she can be stubborn. Suited to intermediate to experienced riders

Merc is Diane's dressage superstar, he's not available to the public.

Purchased in 2017 Blue was ridden by two teenagers primarily at home because he had a floating accident which had left him with equine PTSD. Blue is best suited to intermediate to experienced riders.

Fly has just joined the team, she isnt availabe yet.

Lady was a wild pregnant mare mustered from Northland bush. She's currently in training, so not available to the public.

Gemma is busy raising her baby at the moment.

Pīhanga was mustered from Lake Rotoaira for children who lot interest. Many moons later Diane spotted the skinny elderly pony and whisked her away to be treated like the queen she is.

Pīhanga became Daniel's trusty RDA pony, and is now living life in the slow lane, as befits a lady of her status.
